i have done it a few times. There is no real way to avoid weirdos. Only thing I can recommend is going by your gut instinct. If you don’t like someone, be nice but don’t feel obligated to communicate again. I hear women are far worse (gold diggers on these dating sites) but there also could be some men that are the same way. Always meet in a public place and let someone know where you are going during the date.
Don’t forget to have fun and be open minded =)

don’t date online, and don’t tell people where you live. date real people, and don’t give out coupons for sexual favors. please.

I have never done online dating, but I think being logical will help you avoid weirdos. Do not talk sexual with anybody online, do not accept anyone who seems to ‘fall for you’ really instantly. Let things grow naturally. if you are prone to falling for a bad boy, you will probably meet weirdos. if you are older (like 30s, not really older), then maybe aim for someone who has kids or who has been married before. They tend to be more normal because how many crazy murderers have kids? (yes, a few, but usually they are too weird to keep a relationship going long enough to get married and procreate). However I believe that most of the guys on internet dating sites are normal. You’re more likely to find a weirdo in a bar.

Get to know as much about them as you can before you meet them, meet them in a public place. Don’t give out your personal information and until you have met the person. Not everyone online is a complete loser, or a pervert, but they are there just like anywhere else. Have a friend with you when you meet for the first time. For those that knock online dating, it is a valid way to meet new people, especially if you don’t want to find someone in a bar at 130 am. Trust your gut on the creeps they will approach you anyway, but if you are uncomfortable just block them, you don’t really know each other so its not like you are being rude, just not interested.

I’ve had good success with online dating. Most are free to join and it’s a chat with people before meeting them. It’s exciting to see what other people post in thier profiles and allows me a change to view the competition in my area.
